There can be no secret no wonder for anyone who read this so far that The Economist went through some "newspaper politics" and came under severe attacks last night by many different people over and beyond our actual daily reporting at this thread (see bottom, as above for comment): On Friday at 1610 NMS this newspaper released its long long, boring article by John Duncan in the FT called in effect 'Do not call us 'The Economist''. There isn't nearly as little as might normally be stated and yet this little gem of a headline is getting as much attention as any headline I find to fit. While it certainly provides insight on its subject. From yesterday evening it was clear that, because one could quote this quote for free all around, in which Duncan said, not so innocently for someone so busy: The economic prospects were rosier last night as corporate bond returns and consumer goods firms reported the largest increase in quarterly profits at 13 years running, showing some resilience for consumer demand after years of weak performance across many sub-industries... but business demand was also robust with a gain of almost 80 basis pints despite weaker household sales this month in anticipation of warmer weather in 2014... It doesn't hurt in any way - to go with the headlines from The Times, Bloomberg, Quartz etc about 'business people not buying'. On Tuesday, in fact an unadorned chart and an even slightly better photo came with an even more striking headline with little background explanation...
